Buying an articulated dump truck?
Check payload, tyres and hours.
An articulated dump truck (ADT) earns its keep on soft, uneven ground where a rigid dumper cannot go. Three things decide whether a used one is a good buy.
Payload
Match the ADT to the excavator loading it. A 30t ADT wants a 30–35t excavator; anything smaller wastes cycles.
Tyres
Tyres are the single biggest running cost. Budget for a full set if tread is below 40%.
Operating hours
Under 8.000 hours is comfortable. Between 8.000 and 15.000, check the driveline service history closely.
